Ventilated Acrylic Insect Study Box

This 12.5 x 8.5 x 6 cm insect observation box weighs 180 g and is built from scratch-resistant acrylic panels bonded to a rigid plastic frame. It contains two fixed-position magnifiers: a 4x lens centred in the lid and a 2x lens offset for side-view comparison. The lid’s integrated ventilation zone uses a multi-layered mesh-and-grid design to balance air exchange with containment security. The base tray slides out smoothly and locks into place with gentle friction fit. Non-slip rubber feet cover 80% of the base surface. The dual-lens layout supports comparative observation — e.g., viewing an ant’s entire body at 2x while simultaneously inspecting its mandibles at 4x — encouraging analytical thinking and scientific description. The layered ventilation prevents moisture build-up during humid UK spring/summer conditions without compromising containment. Widely adopted in UK Forest School programmes and primary science CPD workshops for modelling enquiry-based learning: 'What do you notice?', 'What might this tell us?', 'How could we test that?' — all supported by direct, unmediated visual evidence.
