Copper Stump Killer Nails With Drill Bit

A complete 25-piece solution for progressive stump deactivation: 23 pure copper nails (3.5 in × 3.5 mm), 1 stainless steel nail (3.5 in × 3.5 mm), and 1 cobalt-infused high-speed steel drill bit nail (2.7 in × 3.5 mm). Copper’s biocidal action operates via Cu²⁺ ion displacement of essential co-factors (e.g., Fe²⁺, Zn²⁺) in oxidative phosphorylation pathways — disrupting energy metabolism in living xylem parenchyma. Stainless steel ensures precise location marking without deformation; cobalt HSS sustains hardness above 600°C, enabling sustained performance in dense, resinous woods like yew or cherry. To apply: identify the cambial zone just beneath bark, mark entry points with the stainless nail, drill shallow (~15–20 mm) pilot holes using the cobalt bit, then insert copper nails to a depth where only the head remains visible. Over 4–12 weeks, treated stumps show reduced sprouting, darkened sapwood, and increased brittleness — indicating successful metabolic interruption prior to physical extraction.
