Artisan Rainbow Wall Hanging

Handwoven in small batches by UK-based textile artisans, this rainbow measures 45 cm high × 30 cm wide and uses only undyed ivory cotton rope for structural integrity, paired with seven plant-dyed cotton yarns (madder root, weld, indigo vat, etc.) for colour bands. Each band is 4.5 cm tall with 2 mm spacing maintained by hand-guided warp tension. Total weight: 120 g. Tassel comprises 24 strands, each 12 cm long, secured with cotton thread knots (no glue or heat sealing). The top loop is a 15 cm continuous cotton cord, lashed with 8 wraps and locked with two overhand knots — tested to 1.5 kg static load. All dyes are fixed using traditional salt-mordant techniques, achieving excellent wash- and light-fastness without synthetic auxiliaries. Finished with a final cold-water rinse and air-drying — zero tumble drying or chemical softeners. Packaging uses recycled kraft paper and cotton twine only. Frequently chosen for UK co-living spaces, home offices seeking visual calm, Waldorf-inspired learning zones, and as a non-cluttering alternative to framed prints in narrow hallways or stairwell landings. Also used by NHS community art initiatives for participatory wall installations with elderly residents.
