Natures Plus Acidophilus is a food supplement made from Lactobacillus acidophilus. Lactobacillus acidophilus is a predominant bacteria in our digestive tract, mainly in the stomach, duodenum, jejunum and ileum. L. acidophilus produces lactic acid, hydrogen peroxide, and other byproducts of its metabolism that create a hostile environment for the development of pathogenic flora. It has the ability to synthesize B group vitamins such as niacin, folic acid and vitamin B₆ (pyridoxine). Lactobacillus acidophilus supplements may be necessary to restore the balance of the gastrointestinal flora and minimize episodes of diarrhea. They are also indicated in imbalances of the vaginal flora caused by broad-spectrum antibiotics, spermicides, hormones and various dietary factors. It is recommended to take 1 capsule twice a day. Food supplements should not be used as a substitute for a balanced and varied diet and a healthy lifestyle. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose. Keep out of reach of young children. To preserve its maximum effectiveness, this product should not be stored at a temperature above 21º C. Once opened, keep it tightly closed in the refrigerator.
