A4988 Stepper Driver 1/16 Microstep

This A4988 stepper motor driver offers five selectable microstepping modes — full, half, 1/4, 1/8 and 1/16 — enabling precise motion control for bipolar stepper motors. Rated for up to 35 V supply and ±2 A output current, it integrates a translator that accepts simple STEP/DIR commands, eliminating the need for custom firmware or complex timing logic. The internal fixed off-time current regulator functions in slow or mixed decay, ensuring stable current delivery across varying loads and speeds. Mixed decay mode dynamically balances fast and slow current decay periods, resulting in quieter motor operation, improved step-to-step consistency and lower overall power consumption. Internal synchronous rectification improves efficiency during PWM switching. Safety protections include thermal shutdown with hysteresis, undervoltage lockout (UVLO), crossover-current prevention, ground fault monitoring and load short-circuit response. Supplied in a space-efficient 5 mm × 5 mm QFN package with 0.90 mm height and exposed thermal pad. Fully Pb-free with matte tin-plated leads. Compatible with both 3.3 V and 5 V logic systems. Includes one A4988 module and one aluminium heatsink.
