When the calibration pressure is reached, the valve opens preventing, by discharge into the atmosphere, the circuit from reaching pressure spikes that could damage generator or circuit components. The pressure of the exhaust valve is calibrated by the manufacturer, and no variation from the set calibration is possible if it is not altered the valve itself.
